If you enter a group of fees each time you do a particular procedure, you will find it helpful to use ‘Explosion Codes’. After you set up your explosion codes, each time you select a particular one -all the codes and fees associated with that name will enter automatically on a patient’s fee page.
To set up your explosion codes, select Program Setup on the top menu bar and then select Explosion Codes Options.
You may set up as many explosion codes as you wish. First, enter the name you would like to be associated with the group of fees.
Next, enter all of the procedure codes you would like that explosion code to enter. When you select the code, the description and amount will enter automatically however if you would like a different amount used when you use this explosion code you may change it. This is helpful if your office uses different fees for different doctors or for specific insurance companies.
After entering all the codes, to add another group, click the forward arrow button and that will bring you to the next record.
If using or planning to use multiple fee schedules make sure to set the explosion codes accordingly by selecting the correct fee schedule from the top right of the window, this way you can use the explosion codes when posting in network fees.
