TDO Hybrid, similar to TDO Hosted, is a different implementation of the TDO practice management software. The TDO Hybrid implementation is specifically designed for offices that are either currently using TDO Replica (for multiple locations) or anticipate needing TDO Replica in the near future (adding a second location). With TDO Hybrid, the ’primary’ server (Publisher) is hosted in the cloud, but each location has it’s own on-premises server (Subscribers). The most notable advantage to this implementation is the increased stability and security that comes from hosting the primary server in the cloud. Most hosting providers have guaranteed uptime (usually 99% uptime or greater), have an easy-to-use and cheap infrastructure for system image backups (which allow one to quickly restore a system from backup after a ransomware/malware event). Your cloud-hosted server is also insulated from physical threats such as break-ins, fires, floods, etc. that would normally mean a significant amount of downtime (for all locations).

See below an example diagram of the TDO Hybrid setup:

Compared to a diagram of the ’traditional’ TDO Replica setup

In both implementations, the primary server (Publisher) acts as a single point of failure. If the primary server goes down, ALL satellite locations must immediately stop entering data, lest the data they enter cause a conflict when the Replica comes back online. In a ’traditional’ Replica setup, the Primary server is a physical server, kept onsite at one of the locations, and therefore vulnerable to physical threats and sabotage from anyone who gains physical access to the server.

The TDO Hybrid implementation shields the Primary server from these threats by moving this single point of failure to the cloud, where it is safe from physical threats, and only accessible by authenticated users (i.e. only the doctor and/or the IT professional in charge of the hosting account).
