Google 2024 OAuth Updates

Google has announced that starting in the Summer of 2024 they will begin the process of moving fully to OAuth with third-party apps in order to better protect their users. This transition will disable access to less secure apps. Less secure apps being, "non-Google apps that can access Google Accounts with a username and password (basic authentication)."

How to Generate an App Password for Authentication

1. Once logged into your Google account. Click on the icon with small squares in the top-right corner of the screen, then click on Account.

2. Once in My Account page, click on the Security Section.

3. Click on 2-Step Verification.

4. Scroll down until you reach the App Passwords section and then click on the arrow. If you don't see it, type "app" into the Search bar and select "app passwords".

5. Once in the App Password page, enter a name for your App Password such as "TDO Email".

6. Click the Create button.

7. This will generate a random secure password for your TDO SMTP settings. Just replace your existing password with this one, with port “587” and TLS checked. Once copied, just click on Done.
